1. Organization of American States join the Library of Congress in developing the World Digital Library
The Organization of American States (OAS) has agreed to join the Library of Congress in developing the World Digital Library, which is scheduled for launch in 2009 in Paris. Under the agreement, the OAS' Columbus Memorial Library will collaborate on the global library project, whose main objectives include promoting international and intercultural understanding and awareness; providing resources to educators; expanding non-English and non-Western content on the Internet; and contributing to scholarly research.

2. New vertical search site for the global photonics community

Vertical search services and technologies provider Convera Corporation has announced the launch of search.optics.org (search.optics.org), a vertical search site for the global photonics industry, in conjunction with IOP Publishing. Each of the thousands of websites included in the search.optics.org database has been personally selected by the editors of optics.org and Optics & Laser Europe magazine, both produced by IOP Publishing.

3. MuseGlobal, VIP Tone partner to deliver EduTone Search

Metasearch technology provider MuseGlobal, Inc. has announced that K-12 technology solutions provider VIP Tone has selected MuseGlobal's federated search technology to power EduTone Search for the EduTone Ecosystem. The partnership will allow VIP Tone's EduTone customers to simultaneously search multiple sources of content with one single search query.

4. Gale and Greenwood expand partnership to include more Greenwood titles

e-research and educational publisher Gale, part of Cengage Learning, and publisher Greenwood Publishing Group have enhanced their partnership to include more high-demand Greenwood titles. This includes more than 130 titles released in 2008 as eBooks on Gale Virtual Reference Library. Previously, only titles published prior to 2005 were available on Gale Virtual Reference Library.

5. McGraw-Hill titles honoured at the 2008 BMA Medical Book Awards

Print and digital resources provider McGraw-Hill Medical, part of McGraw-Hill Professional, has announced that it has received high honours from the British Medical Association at the 2008 BMA Medical Book Competition awards ceremony. Six McGraw-Hill Medical titles and three medical books from McGraw-Hill Australia were 'Highly Commended' by the BMA, publisher of the renowned British Medical Journal (BMJ).

6. Scott Lubeck named VP, Technology of WK Health's Professional & Education unit
Medical information provider Wolters Kluwer Health (WK Health) has announced the appointment of Scott Lubeck as Vice President, Technology of its Professional & Education unit. Lubeck comes to WK Health from Newsstand Inc., where he served as Vice President/General Manager.

7. PSI and Nature Publishing Group launch PSI-Nature Structural Genomics Knowledgebase

The Protein Structure Initiative (PSI) and scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group (NPG) have announced the launch of the PSI-Nature Structural Genomics Knowledgebase (PSI-SGKB). Hosted by Rutgers University, the free resource serves as a continually updated gateway to research data and other resources from the PSI.

STM publisher Elsevier has announced that it is launching nurse for life, a new electronic product for UK nursing students. The global publisher currently publishes some of the most popular nursing textbooks. 12. Jones and Bartlett brings out new edition of Managed Care: What It Is and How It Works

13. Bestofmedia acquires online technology information portal Computing.Net

Bestofmedia Group, an online media publishing company focused on technology, has announced the acquisition of Computing.Net (www.computing.net), a source of high tech information and technical support for IT professionals, developers, tech enthusiasts and consumers. The move comes within two months following the $35 million investment Bestofmedia raised from venture capital firm Index Ventures. Founded in 1996, Computing.Net features a comprehensive database of technical support questions and answers based on a large technology expert community.
